Sophie Hatter - Howl's Moving Castle

"They say that the best blaze burns brightest, when circumstances are at their worst."

Howl’s Moving Castle is one of my favorite Studio Ghibli movies and Sophie Hatter was on my list of dream cosplays for a long time.

I drafted a custom pattern for the dress and decided to exaggerate the silhouette slightly from the movie design with a petticoat .The dress is made from a blue cotton and the petticoat is 20 m of white organza with a white cotton trim.

In August 2018 I asked my friend Rebecca if she was interested in shooting a showcase video of the cosplay. Everything was filmed in one day and we tried to capture some of the Ghibli magic. The video was shot in ‘The Old Town’ museum which is a museum area in Aarhus where old houses from all over Denmark have been rebuilt and exhibit period accurate furniture and decorations from 1600 to 1970. It was the perfect place to capture the Ghibli environment.

This project was completed in January  2018.
