The Queen of Mirkwood is a character based on Tolkien’s works. She is the wife of Thranduil and mother of Legolas. There aren’t any details on her character which made this quite the open design challenge. I decided to name my queen Mirgíleth, which is a combination of Sindarin words and should translate to ‘sparkling star’. That became the theme for my design. 

I was very inspired by the concept art for Thranduil from The Hobbit movies and incorporated some of the geometrical patterns into the blue bodice. I wanted the design to be unique, but still have some elements with resemblance to Thranduil’s concept. The silver brooch worn on the bodice is inspired by the one Thranduil wears in the movies – although this one is slightly bigger.  

I finished this cosplay in april 2016 for HobbitCon4 to be a part of a group with two friends as Thranduil and Legolas. We also competed in the cosplay contest with these cosplays.
